BEGINNING DRAMA
Grades: 9-12
Semester: 0.5 credit
Course work centers on helping students develop acting skills by participating in theatre games, improvisation, monologues and play preparation and performance. Students will build believable characters, apply basic technical theatre skills, and work effectively in an ensemble. Through class activities students will develop self-confidence, trust, and teamwork. Attendance at an out-of-class performance is required for a passing grade.
For students that have not had drama.
ADVANCED DRAMA
Grades: 9-12
Semester: 0.5 credit
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Beginning Drama with a B+ or better AND teacher’s permission
This is an advanced course for students who have proven basic skills in acting. Emphasis is placed on student leadership in planning and production of plays. Students develop directing skills, and work effectively in an ensemble.This class aims at providing understanding of professionalism and teamwork and will prepare students for the performance expectations found in both academic and career pursuits. Attendance at an out-of-class performance is required for a passing grade.

PUBLIC SPEAKING
Grades: 10-12
Semester: 0.5 credit
Description: Public speaking provides students the opportunity to deliver well organized and planned oral work in front of groups in a variety of situations. Students will improve their speaking skills through visual aid speeches, discussion, informative, persuasive, and debate presentations. They will improve organizational and critical thinking skills, develop poise and confidence and become positive audience members.
